    Posting to newsgroups is an effective form of advertising. However, most newsgroups don't allow advertisement...but they do allow signature files.

    • Find those newsgroups that are relevant to your site or product you're promoting.

    • Before posting to a newsgroup, determine if they accept postings.

    • Monitor the participant's postings and replys to make sure they cover topics associated to your product or website.

    • Add to the discussions and make sure you provide useful advice or information, and let your signature at the end of your email message do your marketing for you.

    Joining and participating in email discussion list is another effective form of advertising using your signature file.

  • Reciprocal Links
    Other sites providing links to your site are extremely important in getting your website the kind of exposure that generates traffic to your site. Find complementary websites and e-mail the webmaster offering to exchange text or banner links.


    • Start by doing a search using some of your targeted keywords. Visit the sites that complement your website.

    • Once you have found the sites that you would like to exchange links with e-mail the webmaster offering to exchange text or banner links with.

    • Don't insist on reciprocal links. One good way is to place a link to their site FIRST and then send an email requesting a reciprocal link. Try and personalize the email you send. Prove to the reader that you have in fact visited their site.

    • Develope an out-of-the way page where you put links to other sites--you don't want to send people out the back door as fast as you bring them in the front door.

    • You should use a one or two line discription to all your reciprocal links. Do not use just a title.

    • Ensure that all your links get an equal share of your traffic. Rotate the order of the links that you have on your site. Try having a website of the week with a graphic link to that one site.

    If banner exchange programs can bring you a little bit of traffic, then I would say why not give them a try. Every little bit helps.

    There are several different types of Banner Exchange Programs. Some are FREE and some charge a fee. With a Free Banner Exchange Program, you fill out a form, submit a banner, and then paste some html code into your page. This type of exchange usually offers a 2:1 ratio.   • Issue a Press Release
    A press release will allow you to reach targeted prospects through publications that cover a particular topic of interest.

    Editors are constantly looking for good leads. The media looks for credible, informative, and interesting news.

    Your Press Release must be interesting and should contain a unique angle so editors will pick up your story. Writing a Press Rrelease is not hard. You can write a successful press release by following a few simple steps.

    • Send your press release to publications that are relative to what your press release is about.

    • You should coordinate your release with the launch of your site and distribute it by either e-mail, newswire, fax, or mail.

    • When writing your press release, stick to the facts, make it short and to the point, and make sure you include the important information in the first paragraph, followed by the less important information.

    • Don't forget to include contact information, URL, and date the information is effective. If it is effective immediately it should include the date and should contain the words "FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE".

    • When sending the release, make sure you address it to an actual person, not to a title like "The Editor". If possible cintact the person you are sending the release to in advance.

    • If your press release is published, send the editor a thank you note.
